Joe talking about his new Stand Up Paddle Board 8'9".

Joe Blair on stand up paddle boards for big boys.

    Custom SUP's

I have come up with a 2 unique designs, one of which is for 225lb guys, which is a 9'7'' ,31 3/8'' wide, and 4 5/8'' thick. The other, for 260lb guys, is a 9'7'', 32'' wide, and 4 3/4'' thick. Even guys at this weight need to stay away from 10'. I have flattened the rocker on these because weight is like rocker. Now these boards will paddle fast and run down the line quickly. Now for guys weighing up to 300lbs or even more, I can make a 10'6'' that's 35'' wide and 5'' thick. Also, at my shop I have a 10'6'', 36'' wide for guys that are 250lbs or more that are just learning. Now they can go out and catch a lot of waves without falling all the time. I am excited about having a rental for bigger guys so they can go out first time and have a lot of fun. One thing nice about the customs, I can make any size or design that you would like.

Give me a call any time you'd like...

    NEW CONCEPT

I have these models with a 3 piece soft top decking. The gray piece in the middle is much softer so it does not hurt your knees and feet.

Making Surfing and Stand-Up Paddle boarding easy and enjoyable for everyone!
These boards serve as surfboards and SUPs

"Sandwich Construction" SUP 10-1 SUP 11-0

    10’ 1” x 32 3/4” x 4 7/8"                                                     8' 11” x 29 ¾” x 4 ½”

    SUP 9-7

    9' 7” x 30 1/8” x 4 5/8”

Sandwich Construction Stand Up Paddle Boards

Teaching people Stand-up Paddle surfing on a board that is 11’6” x 28 ½” is a nightmare and dangerous. The narrow board wears out your ankles and you are toast in 20 minutes. The narrow board also causes you to fall a lot more often…not good! I have made these boards wider for increased stability and shorter for better control. These boards have more nose kick so they don’t pearl and the fins are moved up further than industry standards, allowing the board to turn quicker and easier. The 10’ 1” is perfect for 210lbs on up and the 8’ 11” is for 200lbs on down for SUP...

Guaranteed to be more stable, and be more maneuverable in surf than all other stand-ups!

    "Sandwich Construction"

I have been watching people try to stand up paddle surf with long, narrow boards and it’s not working. My boards being wider allow you to stay in the water longer without fatigue. The shorter board is faster and turns quicker and easier. Makes late drops safer and easier. These boards are sandwich construction which are lighter and stronger than the hand laid up style. I have made special fiberglass fins which give you more punch out of your turns and they also have a thin windsurf type foil which makes them faster too...

The round pin make the board go rail to rail faster and smoother and hangs in better in bigger and hollower surf round pins are a must on wider boards and hides the thickness when riding it...

These boards help OLD GUYS RULE!

    Medical Breakthrough

The shorter stand-up is faster; turns quicker and is way more manageable than bigger ones. Once you ride one and try to go back to your 10' it gets in it's own way and you screw up your ride.

They really don't paddle that much slower than the bigger ones. Turning the board to catch the wave is way easier an quicker. Dropping in late is way easier and being smaller you can on it quicker and rip the wave way - way better.

I have full concave going into double concave with "V" in the tail. This makes the board faster. I also have a speed spot between your feet so it is faster. Very important is that I have softer rails going back further so the board is smoother and more maneuverable. My fins are moved up 4" further than all other manufacturers so the board is quicker turning.

These boards are big so you have to totally re-think fin placement. The back fin has a 10" box so you can cluster the fins together for tighter turns in smaller surf or move the fin back for overhead waves like a semi-gun. The adjustable gives this board a much bigger range. I have found that 3 fins (4 - 5/8") all the way around works best. The 2 + 1 has small fins on the sides which gives no punch and the 9.5" center fin in the back makes it stiff turning.

The round pin is 3 times better than a squash or swallow tail because round pins eliminate the 12" of straight rail in the tail right where you need curve to get tighter and quicker turns. The round pin rolls into turns quicker, smoother, and hangs in better when going fast. Ridding smaller boards has made this incredible sport way better than it already is. Thanks for the aloha Laird!!!

Just try one and you'll never look back.

    Dimensions:
    9 foot 10 inch length
    32-1/2 inch width
    5 inch thickness

Available in any fin configuration; single fin, 3-fin or quad fin

I guarantee this board to be the most stable and high performance wave rider on the market! Did I mention its the fastest with the concaves...

The fin placement and the round pin makes this board turn like a 9 footer which make you not feel the width when you ride it. Now bigger guys or first timers can go out and catch lots of waves and rip like a pro. The long and narrow boards are flintstone for riding waves, narrow means tippy and you get worn out in a half hour and you're done. Wave boards need to be under 10' so they are fast and easy to turn.

I can also make this board bigger or smaller if necessary...

    Aloha,

    J. Blair

    Standup Paddle Board

Joe's stand up paddle board outline is influenced by his speed egg model:

concave in the nose fading to double concave through the speed spot with a subtle transition to "V" in the tail. The board features plenty of nose kick to prevent pearling and ample tail rocker for easy turning. Finally, the most important factor is the fin placement; several inches further up than all other boards.

Important Stand up Paddling Instructions and Maintenance Information:

    • When stand-up paddling, use a parallel stance. If your shins start to fatigue, you are trying to balance with your toes. Relax and bend your knees a little more; feel the ocean and stay loose.
    • When preparing to catch a wave, transition from the parallel stance to a wider surfing stance for stability.
    • While paddling in your surfing stance, or when paddling parallel, while digging with the paddle lean to the side of the paddle which will keep your board running in a straight line.
    • Stand further back on the board for quicker and easier turning.
    • When caught inside, knee paddle with the paddle using a shorter grip, dig fast and hard for stability and speed to get out past the impact zone.
    • Do not ride the board into shallow water where the fin could get dug into the reef or sand. These boards weight and power to tear the fin and box right out of the board if it gets beached.
    • If the board gets dinged, take it out of the water immediately and let it dry for at least three days. Repair with EPOXY ONLY.
    • Stand-up paddling is the best cross training exercise in the world, which makes this sport so fantastic because you use every muscle in your entire body to keep your balance. The combination of paddling and balance coordination improves overall core strength as well.

    J. Blair

Important Stand Up Board Safety Information:

    • These stand up paddle boards are big and can hurt you if you get hit by them, so dive far away from the board; stiff arm out with your grip hand holding the paddle so it doesn't hit you.
    • Stay under water for a bit; then come up with an arm block overhead because your leash will be stretched way out and the board will fly back at you.
    • You can break your paddle if you fall on it, or on to the board. You can also hurt yourself.
    • Throw the paddle away if you get caught in any uncontrollable situation, then swim back to retrieve the paddle once free.
    • No paddle = No fun!
